Our school library has a wide range of printed and digital resources. Below are a few that students have found useful for their EE;
We subscribe to JSTOR, an online database containing hundreds of academic articles.
Questia School is another great online library that we have access to.
These are in addition to a number of subject-specific digital resources (such as Biology/Chemistry/English/Geography Review, Economist, Harvard Business Review, National Geographic, etc)
Please speak to our librarians, Mrs Niu and Ms Postec, for more information/help with our library resources.

Evaluating Sources for Credibility
Let's talk about which studies to believe....
Academic Honesty
Research practices when working on an extended essay must reflect the principles of academic honesty.
The essay must provide the reader with the precise sources of quotations, ideas and points of view through accurate in-text citations within the body of the essay, and full references listed in the bibliography.
For each full reference students must ensure the minimum requirements have been met, this includes;
- name of author
- date of publication
- title of source
- page numbers (if applicable)
- URL (for electronic sources)
- date of access (for electronic sources)
Producing accurate references and a bibliography is a skill that students should be seeking to refine as part of the extended essay writing process.
Documenting the research in this way is vital: it allows readers to evaluate the evidence for themselves, and it shows the student’s understanding of the importance of the sources used.
Failure to comply with this requirement will be viewed as academic misconduct and will, therefore, be treated as a potential breach of IB regulations.
This may lead of your entire Diploma being invalidated.
Citations and References - MLA
Good Extended Essays will be based on a number of different sources of information. You are required to follow good academic practice and acknowledge every time you use the ideas, words or work of other people.
You will need to show exactly where in your essay you have used the ideas of others through accurate in-text citations. You will also need to provide all the details of the source through a full reference listed in the Bibliography/Works Cited section at the end of your essay.
MLA is a citation style developed by the Modern Language Associate to help researchers accurately cite their sources in the academic papers they write.
It provides standardised formatting guidelines for citing virtually every type of resource, and allows readers to easily understand and trace the sources of information on which the academic paper is based.
EasyBib will help you to generate citations and references in the correct MLA format, and you can export these into the Works Cited/Bibliography section of your essay.
All Y12 students have EasyBib accounts. Please speak to our librarian, Mrs Niu, if you have any questions/problems with this.
The Online Writing Lab at Purdue also provides lots of information on how to cite and reference information using MLA.
You will take part in a workshop on citations and references with Mrs Niu, in Nov/Dec of Y12.
